RECORD NUMBER OF VISITORS TO ARoS IN 2016
ARoS came out of 2016 with record-breaking visitor numbers: 835,606 people visited the museum, and 73.5 per cent of these bought tickets for the galleries.
Exhibitions such as Robert Mapplethorpe – On the Edge, Hold Your Beliefs Lightly showing works by Grayson Perry, Textures of Life featuring the Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, and the recent Wild, Bold, and Late Willumsen have been instrumental in attracting large numbers of visitors to ARoS from both home and abroad.
- The record number of visitors shows beyond doubt that ARoS is an attractive destination. We have presented a powerful and relevant programme, opened ARoS Public, a forum for learning and interpretation, and acquired Valkyrie Rán, a work measuring 50 m in length which can be experienced by anyone visiting the museum. Moreover, there is an intensified focus on Aarhus, including ARoS, as a destination promoted by media across the world, says Erlend G. Høyersten, museum director, ARoS.
- We’re looking forward to welcoming our visitors to many more art experiences in 2017 where we have an equally ambitious programme, Mr Høyersten adds.
