Art & Porn

Art & Porn marks the 50th anniversary of the legalisation of visual pornography and shows how the relationship between pornography and art has developed over the past five decades. The exhibition is the result of a close collaboration between ARoS and Kunsthal Charlottenborg. More

The ARoS 2019 programme

Jack & Dinos Chapman - March of the Banal

The British artists, the brothers Jake & Dinos Chapman (b.1966 and 1962) have been leading figures in the art world since the 1990s. From mid-June, their confrontational and shocking universe is showing at ARoS in the exhibition Jake & Dinos Chapman – March of the Banal. More

Wael Shawky -The Crusades and Current Stories

Egyptian artist Wael Shawky (b. 1971) invites visitors to enter a truly spectacular universe as ARoS presents Wael Shawky – The Crusades and Current Stories. The mainstay of the exhibition is Shawky’s famous marionette-based film trilogy, Cabaret Crusades, shown here for the first time ever on Danish soil. More

Cool, calm and collected

It all starts on the lawn outside the main entrance to ARoS. Here, a severed ear in wax is discovered. The ear is a true copy of the one discovered in the grass by the protagonist in the film Blue Velvet by David Lynch. The ear marks the beginning of a narrative. More

The ARoS Aarhus Art Museum is delighted to announce details of a 40 million EUR extension project, entitled The Next Level, in collaboration with American artist James Turrell. More


The exhibition period of the ARoS Triennial The Garden – End of Times, Beginning of Times is coming to an end. The outdoor sections The Present and The Future closed on 30 July and the indoor section The Past, showing in two galleries at the museum, will be closing on 10 September and 22 October, respectively. More

ARoS presents 90 masterpieces in a new collaborative initiative with Tate, LondonOn Saturday 14 October ARoS will open its doors to the exhibition Bacon, Freud, and the London Painters. Joana Vasconcelos - Textures of Life

A three-metre high gleaming stiletto made of saucepans and lids, a chandelier fashioned from thousands of OB sanitary tampons, and a helicopter covered with brightly coloured ostrich feathers. With the exhibition Textures of Life, ARoS will be presenting 17 stunning installations by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, of which the largest, Valkyrie Rán, has been created especially for the museum. Ai Weiwei, Yi Yi, 2015


On the night between the 26th and 27th of January 2016, Ai Weiwei announced on Instagram and Twitter his wish to pull his installation Yu Yi, 2015 from ARoS’ current exhibition A New Dynasty – Created in China in protest at Denmark’s policies on asylum seekers. Since then museum director Erlend G. Høyersten and Ai Weiwei have been trying to reach a solution. The outcome of their dialogue is that Yu Yi will be removed from the exhibition. More
